Glynn County commissioners on July 17 approved rezoning case ZM25-94568, changing approximately 0.647 acres at 4568 New Jessup Highway from Highway Commercial to R‑9 (one-family residential).
Christopher Carey of Glynn County Planning and Zoning explained the property’s history: it had been rezoned in the 2000s from residential to commercial to allow potential development, but the house on the tract was subsequently rehabilitated and has been used as a single-family residence. Carey said the comprehensive plan supports mixed commercial and residential uses along this corridor and that the Planning Commission recommended approval.
No members of the public registered opposition at the hearing; the applicant’s agent, Darrell Dawson, was present. A commissioner moved to approve the rezoning as presented; the motion carried. The county will update zoning records to reflect the R‑9 designation.
Staff noted the rezone aligns parcel zoning with existing residential use and the county’s comp-plan guidance for mixed-use corridors.
