Glynn County commissioners on July 17 approved abandonment AB25-53721 of an unimproved 15-foot unnamed alley that runs north–south through parcel 03-084003721 on Hardy Avenue.
Staff explained the alley had been in its current fenced configuration for many years, that the county’s GIS does not show a through connection on the property, and that the area had been treated as taxable land by previous owners. Photographs supplied by the property owner show a shed, HVAC unit and fencing in place where the alley had been recorded on older plats.
Staff said no utility comments opposed the abandonment, and no public comments were received during the posting period. A nearby property owner did indicate interest in pursuing a separate abandonment for an adjacent parcel, but staff said that did not affect the application before the board.
A commissioner asked whether the county or the private applicant should have initiated the cleanup; staff said the applicant had filed and staff recommended presentation as shown. Commissioners discussed reimbursing application fees in cases where the county’s records require administrative cleanup. The Board approved the staff recommendation to proceed with the abandonment.
The county will record the change to clear the discrepancy between GIS and plat records, and staff noted the action is primarily a housekeeping item to tidy lot lines and tax records.
