Council adopts contract to design Well 1 pump replacement

Public Works Director Aaron Nicks told the council the city has budgeted $180,000 for the Well 1 pump replacement and that the staff proposes to spend about $70,000 for engineering and electrical design work by Grama Osborne Incorporated. He said VFDs will “help your pump ramp up and ramp down very slowly,” which reduces wear and extends equipment life. The packet staff provided to council lists the existing pump placement year as 1989.
There was no public comment on the item. After brief remarks expressing appreciation for the upgrade, a council member moved to adopt Resolution No. 1390-0625 and another council member seconded. The motion passed with the council saying "aye" and the mayor declaring the motion carried; no roll-call vote tally was recorded in the meeting transcript.
Staff and council said the design work will confirm pump sizing, casing compatibility and the electrical requirements needed to install VFDs. Aaron Nicks said the work order will include the engineering to verify the new pump fits the existing well casing and the electrical modifications required.
The resolution authorizes the city manager to execute the work order; council members asked staff to continue monitoring water needs and to account for future growth in project sizing decisions.
