Council hears updates on wastewater projects, approves blower service contract and new hire

Property acquisitions for planned lift stations remain in the final stages as staff and legal teams review historical easement records. Staff submitted IEP funding nomination forms for three projects: the lift station work, a Class A sludge project at the wastewater treatment plant, and the Prairie Hill (Top Dye/Dearborn Avenue) sewer extension to the plant.
Staff reported the IAPA sewer rate study approved earlier is complete and that an engineer who worked on the study will present the report to council on June 2.
The council approved a FlowTechnics service contract for the plant’s three turbo blowers for up to $2,500 (authorized rate item) and discussed the importance of annual maintenance; a staff speaker said the blowers cost about $2.3 million each and that regular servicing, which includes remote diagnostics, helps avoid catastrophic failure. The council also authorized hiring a new wastewater employee (name Aaron referenced) after interviews narrowed finalists; the position had been vacant since September.
