The Michigan City Redevelopment Commission voted July 14 to fund and purchase a decorative aluminum fence for Saint Paul Lutheran Church’s playground at Eighth and Franklin, approving $23,900 for materials and installation.
Church representatives described a neighborhood playground the church installed that is widely used by families and area day-care programs. The church and redevelopment staff sought to remove an old six-foot chain-link fence and replace it with a lower-profile, black aluminum decorative fence that matches downtown streetscapes. The applicant presented multiple quotes and selected Northwest Indiana Fencing as the preferred contractor based on responsiveness and measured pricing.
Redevelopment staff confirmed the quote included removal of the old fence, installation of the new fence and restoration work. Commission members discussed the project as a public improvement that supports downtown investment and neighborhood amenities. The commission approved a motion to fund and procure the fence and directed staff to collect the contractor W-9 and process payment as an improvement purchase on behalf of the church.
The commission recorded the motion by voice vote; members noted the fence will be available for public use and that staff will manage contract documentation and payment.
