Board receives inaugural criminal statistics report; few school-related police actions found

The School District of Fort Atkinson board received and approved on July 17 its inaugural criminal statistics report, a new state-required submission summarizing occasions where police action occurred in district schools.
Staff said state guidance for the new report emerged this year, and districts spent time determining collection and submission needs. District personnel reviewed behavior records across elementary, middle and high schools, identified instances that involved police action and cross-referenced those records with the Fort Atkinson Police Department.
The report, staff said, recorded relatively few occasions that met the statutory reporting threshold. Presenters characterized the result as “unremarkable” in that relatively few school incidents led to police action; they emphasized an ongoing positive working relationship with the local police department for support and guidance in nonreportable interactions.
The board approved the criminal statistics report for submission to the Department of Public Instruction; the motion carried by roll-call vote recorded as yes.
