Board approves small increases to student meal and milk prices starting July 1

The School District of Fort Atkinson Board of Education on July 17 approved modest increases to student meal and milk prices effective July 1 to cover rising program costs in the district’s largely self-funded nutrition services operation.
Under the approved schedule, elementary breakfast will rise from $1.70 to $1.80 and elementary lunch from $3.15 to $3.25. Middle school and high school breakfast prices increase to $2.00; middle school lunch to $3.40 and high school lunch to $3.55. Adult breakfast and lunch prices rose to $2.80 and $4.85 respectively. Individual milk moved from $0.45 to $0.50 and the elementary semester milk fee was set at $40.
District staff described the nutrition services program as nearly self-funded and said the increases respond to rising food and operating costs, not to expand services. The director reported the program served about 102,000 meals last year and highlighted efforts to use locally sourced food and increase in-house cooking to improve quality.
Board members called the increases modest — less than a 3% rise at the high school level — and expressed support for the nutrition services team and for the continued focus on fresh, locally sourced options. The motion to set the new prices passed on a roll-call vote recorded as yes.
