Rec department asks council to support Summer Bash backpack and school-supplies giveaway

The city’s recreation coordinator asked council to support an August 9 Summer Bash that distributes free backpacks and school supplies; staff sought monetary donations, supply donations and raffle-bundle contributions.
Terraina Cuddington, recreation coordinator for the City of Lemoore, asked the council to support the rec department’s Summer Bash event scheduled for Aug. 9. The annual event distributes free backpacks and school supplies to local children and the coordinator said it makes a “difference” for many families.
Cuddington requested monetary donations, school-supply donations and raffle-bundle items and offered to provide a list of needed items to council. She also invited council participation and suggested the council might track donations on a friendly leaderboard. Council members and staff thanked the presenter and no formal action or city funding request was made at the meeting; the item was a public-comment request for community support.
The rec department will continue to accept donations and finalize event logistics in the weeks before Aug. 9.
