Board members reported that the district held its annual July 7 Board of Education retreat and that the board has achieved board certification through the New Jersey School Boards Association (NJSBA), a first for the district.
The board president (reporting) said the retreat focused on board development, alignment with district goals, and an exercise on defining the ideal student experience. The president said the board intends to adopt new board goals at the August public meeting to align governance work with district priorities.
Administrators announced a parent forum scheduled for Aug. 21 at 6 p.m. in the DMS EDE Media Center; the forum’s theme will be “A Place to Welcome: Communication and District Vision,” and will include remarks by the superintendent, explanations of district communication channels, and a discussion on equity and belonging.
Back-to-school nights for individual schools were listed by administrators with dates in September for elementary, middle and high schools; the district said the dates will be posted on the district website. Trustees also reported a positive meeting with Mine Hill board leaders about district collaboration.
These were presented as informational reports; the board scheduled outreach and recognition at the county school board meeting for the NJSBA certification.
