Arts Council elects Harrington as chair, Scone as vice chair

The Mercer Island Arts Council elected Councilor Harrington as chair and Councilor Scone as vice chair during its July 16 regular meeting.
Councilor Rajagopal nominated Councilor Harrington for chair, saying he had "experience, passion, and skills." After no other nominations, staff conducted a roll-call vote in which members approved the nomination. The council then opened nominations for vice chair; Councilor Rajagopal nominated Councilor Scone. Councilor Scone accepted the nomination and the council approved her by roll call.
The council used the election procedure in section 3.1 of the Arts Council bylaws, which allow nominations without a second and require a majority vote if multiple nominees are offered. With the new officers selected, the chair and vice chair will assume their roles at the conclusion of the elections. Councilor Harrington requested staff continue facilitating the remainder of the meeting because he was attending virtually.
Ending: Staff and council members welcomed the new officers and noted that the staff liaison would continue facilitating while the new chair was virtual.
