Supervisors hear about park water leaks, mower failures and stalled contractor work on grants

A member of the Board of Supervisors reported problems at multiple county parks and said park staff have struggled to get contractors and repairs scheduled. "We have some big water leaks at some of the, Rat Park, and then I think there's another 1 at Pierce Creek. And the 1 at Rat Park, they cannot find, and it's losing a lot of water because they're tied into the city," the supervisor said, adding the suspected leak may be under a creek and would require digging a quarter‑mile of pipe. The supervisor said park staff have also had repeated equipment failures: "She ended up spending, like, $3,900 on the John Deere" to fix one mower. She urged parks staff to provide monthly updates and not to hesitate to ask the board for help, noting contractors' failure to commit start dates has delayed work on an Inonoway Valley Park road and bathroom renovations funded by grant money. The supervisor also said recent tornadoes caused tree damage that the parks department lacks the equipment to clear. She encouraged the parks director to meet monthly with the board or to notify supervisors when contractors or grant timelines are at risk. No formal action or funding allocation was made at the meeting; supervisors instructed staff to maintain communication and to return with updates as needed.
