At its July meeting, the Franklin City Parks Board approved the July 2025 department report and heard multiple operational updates from parks staff.
Staff sought and received board approval to send eight employees to the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) conference in Orlando in September; staff said one attendee’s travel would be charged to the parks budget and seven attendees would be charged to program budgets. Speaker 3 said staff found hotel rooms for about $89 per night and flights for about $230 round trip to keep costs down.
On pool operations, staff said the season is winding down and the pool has about 27 days remaining this summer. Staff warned that if lifeguard staffing does not improve the department may close on Labor Day. "Right now, we do not have enough," Speaker 3 said. Staff said they expect to know for sure by the next board meeting and will notify the public if a Labor Day closure becomes necessary.
Staff presented preliminary event attendance figures provided by Placer AI. For the city’s fireworks event, Placer AI showed about 24,000 people "in the vicinity of the amphitheater," Speaker 3 said; staff noted the amphitheater is designed for 5,000 people. Staff also reported a recent baseball/softball tournament at Scott Park drew about 4,800 people over two days.
Financial reports showed revenue ahead of last July, driven by the pool and program activity; staff cautioned May had been a weak month. On cemetery matters, repairs to older tombs are beginning (referred to as "round 3") and the Board of Works authorized paving some previously unpaved cemetery roads and seal coating; staff said that work must be completed by Oct. 31.
The board approved the July department report by voice vote.
