Viking Elementary says new kitchen nearly finished; cafeteria, classrooms and multipurpose room move toward completion

Mrs. Swanson, principal at Viking Elementary, and Paul Amborn, project superintendent with Nexus Solutions, gave a summer construction update outlining progress on a multi-phased renovation at the school.
The new kitchen is "about 90% complete," Amborn said, and contractors were on site the day of the update "installing the fluid applied flooring. It's an epoxy coating that will be in the kitchen." Electrical and mechanical rough-ins are largely finished, he added, and "plumbing is in the wall for the new restrooms upstairs."
The cafeteria area has been opened up to the deck after removing a former second-floor section. Amborn said the cleared space measures "approximately a 44 foot by 55 foot area" and that "the new steel for the stairs was delivered last week, and that's being installed right now as well as some of the cloud ceilings that go up into the area."
Classroom work is advancing toward interior finishes. Amborn said classrooms are "close to being painted. We're, they're mostly sheetrocked. All the plumbing and electrical rough ins are already in. The overhead, plumbing and HVAC ductwork has been completed. So in the next week, we'll have most of those taped and jointed, and, then we'll be painting and ceilings will follow."
Work in the multipurpose room includes forming and preparing a stage and installing new flooring. "The walls are being painted tomorrow, and, stage is being, made right now where it's all formed up. We're gonna pour the, the stage so that, is in place. And then the rubber flooring comes next week, and we'll have that installed," Amborn said.
The update was an informational briefing for families and did not include formal votes or policy actions. Mrs. Swanson closed by thanking the construction team and saying the school will provide further updates.
