The safety committee reported one workers'‑comp claim in June and highlighted staff training and building-security reminders.
Luna, staff member, presented the safety committee notes. She said Fred Moore announced a September employee appreciation lunch. The committee recorded one workers'‑comp claim for June involving an animal‑control employee treated for a cat bite; Luna noted the infection risk from such bites and commended prompt medical treatment.
Luna said year‑to‑date the organization had nine claims, three fewer than the prior year at the same point. The committee also discussed a training topic on environmental hazards; staff expanded the training beyond conventional defensive‑driving material to include e‑bikes, pedestrians, bicycle safety, and railroad‑crossing awareness.
The Sheriff's Department sent a letter to department heads reminding staff to ensure exterior doors remain fully closed and to contact the sheriff's office after hours for security concerns. The health department raised a concern about bathroom locking mechanisms that could affect emergency assistance; the committee recommended inspection and follow-up.
The safety committee will meet next on Aug. 13. The report did not include formal board action on the items; claim details were slated for executive session.
