Select Board approves town match for Grange building assessment to pursue preservation grant

The Brentwood Select Board approved July 15, 2025, a request from the Brentwood Historical Society to use town maintenance funds as a local match for a building assessment grant.
A representative of the Historical Society told the board the New Hampshire Preservation Alliance will cover 50% of a $6,500 historic-structure assessment; the town’s share would be $3,250. The Historical Society representative reported $3,518 remained in the maintenance account identified for the Grange, and asked the board to approve applying that portion toward the required match so the assessment can proceed.
The assessment will provide a detailed, prioritized set of repair recommendations and is intended to position the town and the Historical Society to apply for larger construction and preservation grants. The board approved the match and the Historical Society’s application; one member recused from the vote and the record shows the motion passed with the remainder of the board voting in favor.
Next steps: staff will apply the maintenance funds to meet the local match and the Historical Society will proceed with the assessment under the Preservation Alliance program. The assessment is expected to inform future grant applications and a longer-term preservation plan for the Grange building.
