The Washington State Auditor’s Office gave Lake Washington School District an unmodified, or clean, opinion on financial statements and federal compliance for fiscal year 2023–24, district leaders reported at the June 23 board meeting.
Superintendent Barbara Holman said auditors found no material weaknesses, no findings requiring disclosure and no reportable noncompliance in the areas reviewed. Holman and accounting manager Margo Allen described the audit as a months‑long process that included financial statement preparation, on‑site work and an exit conference.
Holman said the audit did identify a prior finding related to alternative learning experience (ALE) program documentation for one program; the district corrected controls and documentation and the auditors noted the issue was immaterial to the financial statements. Holman clarified the matter related to GAAP accounting treatment of deferred property tax revenue and timing issues between fiscal years rather than an unrecorded revenue problem.
District officials thanked accounting staff for responsiveness during the audit and noted the district will continue to post audit reports on its website and on the state auditor’s site. Holman said the district views the annual audit as an opportunity to improve internal controls and transparency.
Ending: The board acknowledged the audit presentation; no board action was recorded beyond accepting the report as presented.
