Commissioners said the Calleo Hometown Association raised $10,000 in one month for a proposed park and credited local businesses for supporting fundraising efforts. At the July 15 commission meeting, members also noted a repaving project in Calleo they said will change traffic patterns and could increase customer visits to local businesses.
Why it matters: Small‑town fundraising and infrastructure work can support community placemaking and local commerce, commissioners said.
A commission member reported: “Last month, they raised $10,000 towards that park, in 1 month…they’re getting good support from local businesses. Moose Lodge has done some things to help them on their fundraising as well as Calleo Road Company.” The same speaker said ongoing repaving work “will encourage people to want to stop and [support] some local businesses.”
Ending: Commissioners asked staff to continue monitoring local projects and to include such community efforts in presentations to the Board of Supervisors and in the Main Street initiative draft.
