Ryan, Parks and Recreation Director, reviewed special events work and said staff worked long hours preparing and executing FreedomFest on July 3–4, citing 16–17 hour shifts on July 3 and early morning starts for the July 4 events. "A big shout out to all of our parks and recreation staff for what they do," Ryan said.
Ryan outlined event components at FreedomFest: two live evening bands, two orchestra performances, free ice cream and watermelon, daytime and evening kids areas with inflatables and crafts, a veterans tribute dinner, the Cherry Bomb Triathlon on the morning of July 4, a car show, food trucks, a children's parade organized by the library, a hot-dog eating contest, free swimming, a cornhole tournament and fireworks. He described the veterans dinner as "a really special experience." Staff credited maintenance crews for long prep hours and successful site readiness.
Ryan also reviewed ongoing special-event programming for the summer: four remaining Thursday concerts at 7 p.m. at Chisholm Trail Park (bands include Karma for This, Matt Cowell and the Oklahoma City Symphonic Band; Aug. 7 will feature a Yukon karaoke contest) and four remaining Friday Fun Days at various venues (examples: Old School Recess at Hillcrest, Mad Science at Jackie Cooper Gym, Glow Party at the Yukon Community Center, Water Wars at Sunrise Splash Pad). He invited board members to participate in upcoming activities.
Board members Tim, Joe Baumann, Steven and Carrie publicly thanked staff for the work. No new policies, budget changes or formal board actions were proposed during the recap.
