The Tricentennial Committee reported progress July 16 on several historical programming efforts: a living-history reenactment and tour, an oral-history recording project and a fall house tour.
The historic-events working group said it selected six to eight characters for a living-history reenactment and plans to stage the performance and walking tour at Burnett Cemetery and near Summer Terrace on Sunday, Nov. 7. The working group will divide research tasks among volunteers and plans to consult with the Framingham Historical Society in August for lessons learned about costuming and staging.
On oral histories, committee members said Andrew coordinated contact with Terry from a local media group (Claflin Hill / public-access media) who volunteered studio time to record interviews. The committee is compiling a list of interview volunteers and discussed training several tricentennial/historic volunteers to conduct interviews rather than relying on a single interviewer. Recordings are intended to be published on YouTube for ongoing access.
The house tour work group has been staying in touch by email through the summer; Kate Battles is leading that effort and intends to present a plan in the fall identifying historic houses and several gardens modeled on the successful 2019 tour. Committee members emphasized that the house tour will combine a range of properties to reflect local history.
No formal approvals were recorded; working groups will report back with timelines and volunteer assignments in August and fall meetings.
