Council to consider $55,100 purchase to replace RAS variable-frequency drives at treatment plant

Utilities staff asked the Committee of the Whole to approve a capital-equipment purchase to replace variable-frequency drives (VFDs) for the plant’s return activated sludge (RAS) pumps. The request is for $55,100 from the capital expense equipment fund; staff said the purchase was budgeted and the budget will support it.
Mister Bounds described that the plant has four RAS pumps whose motors were replaced over the last two years and that the VFDs now require replacement. Council member Conzo questioned a line item referencing a previous fiscal year in the memo; Bounds and staff clarified that the line was erroneous and that the request pertains to the current purchase only.
Council had no further questions and directed staff to place the item on the regular agenda for final approval.
