The Dundee City Council approved a tourism project management contract and accepted a competitive wayfinding grant to expand signage, maps and promotional materials downtown.
Councilors approved a supplemental project management agreement to continue downtown tourism work, adding walkway and signage projects to the scope. Staff said the project management contract line item is $50,000 in the supplemental agreement, with $60,000 budgeted elsewhere for the grant match and implementation.
Separately, the council voted to accept a $60,000 competitive wayfinding grant for fiscal year 2025–26; staff said the city will match with $11,000. Councilors discussed proposed sign designs (including a decorative wine‑barrel motif on a draft map and signs) and expressed concern about installation details and durability. Staff said the design materials and a summary were posted for council review and that the sign package may be adjusted through Oregon Department of Transportation permitting.
Tourism staff reported promotional work is already live: advertising videos (15‑, 30‑ and 90‑second spots) are planned for mid‑July distribution, and printed maps (5,000 copies) will be available to local businesses and visitors. The council discussed distribution through businesses and the city and plans for merchandise and event giveaways tied to upcoming events, including a multi‑winery event and a race planned for July.
A councilor noted one abstention on the tourism project management vote (an abstention was registered for a council member with a conflict); the wayfinding grant acceptance passed by voice vote with no recorded opposition. Staff said volunteers and tourism committee members are active in implementation and that staff will report back as projects move toward installation.
The council asked staff to refine sign placement to avoid maintenance problems and to ensure signage is not used inadvertently as refuse receptacles.
