The finance committee on July 15 elected new leadership, confirmed appointments to standing committees and discussed member orientation and the committee’s meeting format for the upcoming year.
Committee members conducted nominations and roll-call votes for chair and vice chair and then approved a slate of committee appointments, the meeting transcript shows. Members also discussed an orientation session on municipal finance and hybrid meeting logistics.
During nominations, a motion was made and passed by roll call to elect the incoming chair; committee members congratulated the nominee after the vote. The committee then nominated and voted to elect Joanna Roche as vice chair; the roll-call vote recorded one abstention and otherwise passed.
Committee members volunteered or re-confirmed designees to related advisory committees, including capital-consideration and solid-waste committees. Several members said they would continue serving on their current assignments; Jill said she intended to remain on CAPCOM to see the capital tracking system work through outstanding issues with staff.
Members discussed education for new members. One member suggested a half-day course on municipal accounting; Brian and other staff said an orientation is in development and will be made available to new and current members. On meeting format, members said they favored in-person meetings when possible but noted constraints on conference-room availability and the requirement to accommodate hybrid attendance. One member requested staff schedule rooms promptly to avoid conflicts.
What’s next: the committee will proceed with the approved appointments; staff will circulate the orientation plan and work on meeting-room scheduling. Members said they will be notified if a September meeting is scheduled; otherwise future meeting timing will depend on the town calendar and any special town meeting business.
