Cornwall Central board elects Christine Diaz president, Christian Brunelli vice president

Christine Diaz was elected president of the Cornwall Central School District Board of Education at the board’s July 14 reorganization meeting, winning a 5–3 vote. Christian Brunelli was elected vice president in a separate vote, prevailing 6–1. John Fink, assistant superintendent for business and district clerk, opened the meeting, administered oaths and ran nominations before the board took votes on leadership positions. The board swore in newly elected members and interim Superintendent Megan Argenio earlier in the meeting. The nominations for president were taken from the floor. Eleanor (Eleonora) nominated Christian Brunelli; another member nominated Christine Diaz. Fink tallied votes when members raised hands: Richard Schaffner, Carl Gilpatrick and Eleonora voted for Brunelli; Lofton Reiser, Christine Diaz, Jim Cregan, Bridal Carty and Jamie Fox voted for Diaz. Fink announced a 5–3 result and swore in Diaz as president. For vice president, Christian Brunelli and Jamie Fox were nominated. Fink counted raised hands and reported that Brunelli received votes from Richard Schaffner, Carl Gilpatrick, Lofton Reiser, Christian Brunelli, Eleanor Fazio and Jamie Fox; Jamie Fox received a vote from Jim Cregan. Brunelli was sworn in after the 6–1 tally. The board proceeded with routine reorganizational business after the leadership votes, including appointments and designations for the 2025–26 school year. The new president and vice president took control of the meeting operations immediately after their oaths. The board indicated they would finalize committee assignments and other delegate roles in the coming weeks.
