The board’s letter was drafted after presentations and public comment noting recent manatee sightings and residents’ concerns about boat traffic and dock permitting near manatee swim paths.
Tim Hughes and other residents reported visible manatee sightings on Stephenson Creek and asked the board whether it had already sent a letter to council. Board members said they had drafted a letter in support of an enhanced slow-speed zone and, after brief discussion, a board member moved to accept the letter “as presented”; a second was called and members voted “Aye” with none opposed.
