Park board hears status update on Lakeview Park; railings installed, playground delivery planned for August

Stark County staff gave an update on construction and finishing work at Lakeview Park, reporting that railings at the parking area are installed but remain unpainted, playground equipment should arrive in August, and additional site work remains to be completed.
Amanda Engelstead, staff member, said the county’s road department installed the parking railings in unfinished metal to avoid additional rework until the main construction is complete. "We are gonna leave them in their rusty version right now, and then, we'll deal with that later," Engelstead said; she added a later estimate to sand and coat the railings would be about $3,500.
Engelstead said the county had ordered playground equipment with an expected August delivery and that Dickinson Parks and Rec. planned to install the equipment but might delay installation until late fall if weather or scheduling interferes. She said the county ordered other park items, including basketball hoops and nets, and that one equipment invoice included a broker charge of roughly $48,000.
Board members discussed the small covered pavilion (planned at 12 by 20 feet) and asked staff to solicit bids and options, including ready-made kits. Courtney, board member, Paul, board member, and Bernie Marsh, board member, agreed to be a small review group for vendor options and costs so staff could proceed without waiting for the next full meeting. Engelstead said kit prices for the pavilion could range from $1,500 to $3,000 for that size and noted contractors would still be needed to install footings and assemble the structure.
On landscaping, Engelstead presented a tree schematic prepared by resident Lindsay Becker and said the county would consult local forestry resources to confirm species compatibility; she suggested contacting the Dickinson forester and county extension resources for planting recommendations.
No formal board votes were taken on construction changes; staff were directed to obtain bids for the pavilion and to work with the three-member review group on procurement and installation timing.
