Dunn County commissioners voted on Tuesday to support a partnership with Mackenzie County to improve Mackenzie Bay Road, approving a county commitment to a 60/40 local cost split while Mackenzie County covers the remaining 40 percent.

Commissioner Heizer moved that the county support a 60/40 construction cost split on the project, citing the road’s heavy weekend and recreational use and the likely durability benefit from subcutting soft spots and applying an overlay. He said preliminary estimates discussed with Mackenzie County put project construction at roughly $1.8 million plus engineering costs.

Commissioner Klayman seconded the motion and the board approved it by voice vote. County staff said Mackenzie County and its contractor estimate the work will include subcutting soft sections and applying a 2‑ to 4‑inch overlay; start timing could be late summer or after Labor Day depending on contractor availability and scheduling.

Commissioners said they would inform Mackenzie County that Dunn County supports the cost split so Mackenzie leaders can finalize planning and begin procurement. County officials emphasized that final dollar amounts and formal agreements will follow engineering work and formal intergovernmental agreements.
