Dunn County commissioners on Tuesday approved several contractor payments and heard progress reports on road projects ranging from final inspections to environmental permitting.
The board approved a final pay estimate of $58,288.26 to Bronco Brothers for the 100th Avenue NW construction project and later approved pay estimate No. 3 for Bronco Brothers in the amount of $151,958.05 for the Hundred Fifth Avenue project. Commissioners also approved pay estimate No. 1 for Jensen Brothers for 90 Seventh Avenue in the amount of $70,535.35.
"It is the final estimate," a road department representative confirmed when the board approved the Bronco Brothers final payment for 100th Avenue NW. Each motion was made and seconded and passed on roll call votes.
County staff reported ongoing design and permitting work on a batch of projects, including 90 Second Avenue and Twelfth Street (easements in progress), 20th Street (preliminary design complete), and several 2026 projects where field surveys and environmental and cultural reports are pending. Staff said archeological concerns on a corridor aligned with Highway 200 have added scope and cost to the 119th Avenue project; the county has submitted project shapefiles to the State Historic Preservation Office and engaged the Army Corps for input.
"These cultural issues are adding significant cost to the project," a county engineer said, adding that the required mitigation will be limited to specific sites rather than the project’s entire length. Staff said they would provide estimated construction costs for the mitigation areas before finalizing bids.
Commissioners and staff discussed timing for several major bids: a July 2 bid opening is scheduled for Pinewood Meadows subdivision work; another large project covering 100th to Jean Harris vicinity is planned for a July 16 bid opening, with a likely 2026 completion date recommended because of project complexity. County engineers said wetland credits and Section 404 permits are being processed for multiple projects and that wetland delineation and cultural studies were underway.
Several motions to pay contractors were approved by roll call votes with commissioners voting in favor. Staff said they will continue coordinating easement negotiations with landowners and attempt to limit disturbance where possible.
