Parks staff reported several implementation milestones for Williams County parks: the newly renovated Cote D’Oreille campground has opened and saw heavy weekend use; Lookout Park will have an official ribbon cutting; major earthwork at Blacktail Dam is well ahead of schedule and staff will hold an informational public meeting to explain construction impacts and timeline.
Why it matters: the master plan’s capital projects affect public access, boat launch logistics and nearby residents. Staff said changes at Blacktail will alter trailer parking patterns and temporary access and that the county will keep the boat ramp open while construction continues.
Key updates from staff: Jeremy, parks staff, said Cote D’Oreille opened to campers and that crews are finishing punch‑list items (floor sealing in restrooms and pedestal adjustments) and hydroseeding grass areas. He said the campground was "full" on recent weekends. Lookout Park has an official ribbon cutting scheduled and staff expect remaining irrigation and minor concrete corrections (including fixing a basketball hoop height and a handicapped parking slope) to be completed soon.
Blacktail Dam: Jeremy said the dirt work contractor is two to three weeks ahead of schedule and the county will try to keep crews working by moving utilities and starting trails earlier than planned. The department scheduled an informational meeting for residents to explain what will change, when trailer parking and access routes will be altered, and to collect questions; the meeting will be held in the county building meeting room.
Other items: at Epping Springbrook Dam staff reported that buoys are in place but one shifted during winter ice and the sheriff’s dive team will assist with moving a submerged weight. Staff said Epping and other parks have seen higher day‑use and camping levels this spring and early summer.
Next steps: staff will complete minor punch list items at new facilities, publish meeting details for the Blacktail informational session, continue hydroseeding and irrigation work and coordinate with contractors to keep construction moving as crews remain mobilized.
