A Washington County treasurer’s office representative asked supervisors on June 24 to reclassify an open account clerk position to a more specialized real-property tax position to improve retention and match job duties. Personnel staff indicated a proposed pay-grade change from grade 8 to grade 10 (discussion referenced roughly $1.50 per hour increase) and recommended review by the personnel committee.
The treasurer’s office representative said the job requires in-depth knowledge of property-tax tasks and that the reclassification would help attract and retain candidates who can perform the full scope of work. Personnel staff said the change would create a modest recurring cost beginning in the next fiscal year but that breakage and current vacancies could partially cover the difference during the remainder of the current year.
Supervisors voted to move the proposal to the personnel committee for a full review with recommended grade and a financial impact estimate to be presented to the committee. Personnel staff said they will return with the final grade recommendation, cost projection and implementation timing.
