Washington County public health requested and the committee approved permission to apply for a New York State Department of Health dementia training grant of up to $10,000, County staff said. The application must be used by Sept. 30 and would fund training intended to "increase the awareness of dementia as a manageable chronic condition," the presenter said.
The grant application will be completed internally by public health staff, and the training would be delivered by instructors from the state, the presenter told supervisors. If spaces remain after county staff participation, public health said it would open training slots to community-based organizations.
County staff also said the state scheduled a preopening survey of the Brookpoint facility for July 15 at 11:30 a.m. The survey is intended to check environmental and life-safety systems including fire suppression, HVAC, electrical and plumbing. Buildings and grounds staff member Matt will review the state checklist with public health staff and the department will upload required documentation into the state system before the site visit.
Treasurer Al told the group he had discussed available project funds with Matt and that existing contract contingencies may be sufficient to cover typical "punch list" corrective items identified by the state; county staff said the list may be a work in progress and the state understands not every item will be complete by July 15.
Public health also said it will release a community health survey on July 1 to run through the summer, including distribution at the county fair and online with a QR code. Staff requested supervisors post an informational brochure on their municipal websites and in public-facing locations.
The motion to permit application for the NYSDOH grant was put to a vote and passed unanimously.
County staff said next steps include uploading documentation for the July 15 preopening survey, scheduling a checklist review with buildings and grounds, and completing the NYSDOH grant application.
