County approves share of triennial sonar treatment for lake; staff notes homeowners association lead

Washington County supervisors voted to approve the county’s share of a triennial sonar treatment for a homeowners-association-managed lake, buildings staff said during the June 24 meeting.
Staff said the total treatment contract is roughly $35,957 and the county’s portion has historically been about $4,000 every three years. The treatment targets nuisance species including milfoil and another aquatic invasive species staff identified as one of the two primary problems.
Buildings staff said the treatment procurement and permitting are typically handled by the association’s contractor and that any change to a different treatment product would likely require state approvals and could add multi-year delays. Staff offered to raise alternative treatment questions with the lake association and the contractor if supervisors want to explore other options.
The committee approved the county’s routine contribution for the upcoming treatment cycle; staff said the payment will be processed from the parks repair and maintenance line unless supervisors request otherwise.
