The Warren County Economic Growth and Development Committee on June 24 authorized the planning department to submit multiple Consolidated Funding Application (CFA) proposals and other grant applications to state programs.
Planning staff outlined a multi‑project approach that includes: a $275,000 recreational trails project to modernize trailheads and install wayfinding (requiring a $75,000 county match); a $200,000 update to the First Wilderness Heritage Corridor study to translate concepts into shovel‑ready projects; targeted infrastructure support for municipal projects including water/sewer and zoning updates in Johnsburg and a pro‑housing infrastructure application for Lake George; and potential grants to address culvert priorities and other resiliency work. Staff also said they will pursue Empire State Development strategic planning grants, including a rail‑line study application capped at $100,000 that would require a 50% match.
Committee members asked about total potential county match exposure; staff estimated a rough range of $800,000 to $1,000,000 depending on which projects are pursued and municipal partner contributions. Supervisor Wilde recommended establishing a county match reserve to avoid losing opportunities; staff said they would explore that option.
The committee approved the blanket authorization for planning to submit the CFA and related grant applications; planning will return for committee approval of any grant awards and for authority for associated local matches as awards arrive.
