Commission renames two short road segments after bypass work: Yonder Lane, Bear Mountain Lane

The Morgan County Commission voted July 16 to rename the section of road cut off by a recent bypass as Yonder Lane and to designate another short roadway with multiple homes as Bear Mountain Lane. Commissioners and staff said the bypass moved a portion of Johnson Mill Road several dozen feet, leaving two houses on a short disconnected piece that required a distinct road name for addressing and emergency response. A motion to change that cut-off section to Yonder Lane passed by voice vote. Separately, commissioners approved naming a previously unnamed road serving more than one residence as Bear Mountain Lane; the item had cleared planning review and the commission voted to finalize the name. Staff said the name changes follow the standard review process with the county planner and will be forwarded to mapping and addressing systems. Commissioners asked staff to coordinate with the county’s addressing and mapping systems to ensure emergency services and mail delivery are updated. No public testimony or opposition to either name change was recorded at the meeting; motions passed by voice vote.
