Morgan County commissioners voted July 16 to add $5,833 to the Day Report/Data Report Center’s salary line and to increase the center’s revenue by the same amount to cover extra work tied to a new evening and weekend staging program. The move followed staff reports that the center’s recent contract work produced additional revenue but required staff to work outside regular business hours. Commissioners discussed that the center previously received several grant and contract revenue sources — staff reported a larger grant of about $120,000 in earlier years and roughly $143,600 in DHHR (Department of Health and Human Resources) contract revenue last year — and that the new service schedule has created extra time demands for currently exempt staff. Commissioners and staff said the center already budgeted roughly $5,000 for overtime for nonexempt employees; the requested $5,833 increase was described as a temporary salary adjustment to compensate an exempt supervisor who is taking on additional evening and weekend responsibilities. A motion to add $5,833 to the Day Report/Data Report Center salary line and to increase the center’s revenue by that same amount passed by voice vote. No detailed long-term funding guarantee was made; commissioners emphasized they prefer budget requests that include an identified revenue source. Staff said the higher DHHR revenues have been in place only several months and that the level of contract income can vary, so the salary adjustment was positioned as an interim measure while revenue stability is monitored. Clarifying details discussed at the meeting include that the center had built $5,000 for nonexempt overtime into the budget, that the center’s director is an exempt employee and therefore not eligible for overtime pay, and that staff reported recent DHHR contract income of roughly $143,600. The motion passed with commissioners announcing “Aye” and “Motion carried.”
