The director of corrections told the County Courts & Corrections Committee on July 16 that recruitment and retention have improved over the past year and the county’s jail population is at a historic low. “We now have more of a correctional officer population that's more representative of our inmate population,” the director said, adding that the department hired 72 officers and retained 72% of those hires over the last year.
