The Tompkins County Workforce Diversity and Inclusion Committee agreed Wednesday to draft a proclamation recognizing Disability Pride Month in July and to submit the item for inclusion on the county legislature’s July agenda.
Committee members Rachel Graham and Veronica Pillar volunteered to draft the proclamation. A committee member noted the legislature’s calendar for the July meeting on July 15 and advised that the proclamation needs to be submitted in advance of the agenda distribution. The submission deadline was discussed and settled as Thursday, July 3, to allow review and inclusion ahead of the July 15 legislative meeting.
Members asked that the committee consult local disability organizations when finalizing language; the Finger Lakes Independent Center was previously contacted last year. Graham and Pillar agreed they would reach out to community partners and circulate a draft to the committee for review before the submission deadline.
No formal vote was required; the committee set the drafting and submission task and volunteers to carry it out.
