Sunbury updates wastewater expansion; two new aerobic digesters under construction

City staff updated the council on progress at the wastewater treatment plant expansion and described work on two new aerobic digesters. Carly Zarebrowski, project lead, said the excavation for the new digesters is roughly 60 feet by 100 feet and about 25 feet deep and that crews have begun pouring floors and will follow with walls and piping work through August and early September. "That pit that you see there is approximately 60 feet by a 100 feet and about 25 feet deep," Zarebrowski said. Zarebrowski said the contractor is pouring reinforced, cast‑in‑place concrete and managing groundwater with sump pumps. She said the digester layout will be similar to the existing rectangular digesters and includes substantial piping and drainage work. Staff said photographers from the contractor's marketing team fly a drone biweekly and the city hopes to obtain time‑lapse or drone footage for public updates. The council asked for additional profile and topographic views to show finished heights relative to the nearby creek and floodplain; staff agreed to provide cross‑section views for peace of mind. Zarebrowski said the parking lot construction and the 2025 street improvement program are also progressing, with concrete replacement beginning and Columbus Street parking lot slated for September construction. No formal action was taken; the presentation was an update and included contractor inspection photos provided to council members.
