Commissioners accept low fuel bid from Newton Oil for county supply

The Board of Commissioners voted to accept Newton Oil as the low bidder for the county's gasoline and diesel supply at the July 15 meeting.
County staff reviewed two bids and usage data for gasoline and diesel. Newton Oil submitted the low bid (gasoline reported at about $2.02–$2.30 per gallon in the presentation and diesel at about $2.56), competing with Heritage Oil. Staff told commissioners this was the first year the county's new tracking system allowed more accurate usage reporting, and recommended basing future contracts on updated volumes. The board recorded the motion to accept the low bid and the motion carried 3–0.
Budget note: commissioners reminded department heads that the presented fuel prices do not include taxes and that departments should factor tax (roughly indicated as about $0.40 per gallon for gasoline and $0.60 for diesel in the discussion) into 2026 fuel budgets.
The board directed staff to notify the winning bidder and continue monthly tracking of fuel usage so contract volumes for future years can be adjusted.
