Commission sets public hearings for private airstrip and several rezonings; reports several items approved by supervisors

The Graham County Planning and Zoning Commission set public hearings for several items, including a special use permit for a private airstrip (SUP25-03) and rezoning requests REZ938-25, REZ939-25 and REZ940-25, to be heard at the commission's next meeting.
For SUP25-03 (APN 11-16-001F, 161 acres), the applicant, Larry Wilson, requested a special use permit to create a private airstrip on a portion of the land in Kielberg Canyon near the Galero Mountain Range. Staff said the applicant has already obtained federal authorization and the county's action is to set the item for public hearing; commissioners voted to set it up for the next meeting.
The commission also set up rezonings requested by Lane Jensen (REZ938-25, 2.5 acres), Clyde and Paula England (REZ939-25, 5 acres, commercial/manufacturing to match existing use) and Shauna Taylor (REZ940-25, 5.5 acres of a 61-acre parcel for storage units). Each item was placed on the commission's next agenda for a public hearing.
Staff reported that nine items that had gone to the Board of Supervisors were approved, including a family cemetery special use permit for Chris and Monica Stauffer, a lot-split approval for Ryan Layton, approvals for a travel trailer park rezoning (Neil Brooks) with stipulations related to an underground water or irrigation line, and a co-op rezoning expansion in Central. Staff also announced a new building inspector, Dustin Willie, who replaces Joe Carpenter.
The commission emphasized that items set up today will receive public comment at the public hearing stage and that no public input will be taken while merely placing items on the next meeting's public-hearing calendar.
