Board appoints Valley Ridge principal, grants hiring authority and approves superintendent contract

The Lewisville ISD Board of Trustees on Tuesday voted on several personnel matters, approving a principal appointment, authorizing settlement action on a special-education matter, granting interim hiring authority, and ratifying the superintendent’s contract.

Trustees voted to appoint Kaylee Malone as principal of Valley Ridge Elementary STEM Academy. The motion to approve Malone was made during the open session and carried with the board recording a vote reading “carry 6 0 1” in the meeting record; administration later invited Valley Ridge staff and family to the dais for recognition.

On a separate agenda item, the board authorized the superintendent to finalize a settlement resolution associated with a pending special-education matter discussed in executive session. Dr. Rapp presented the motion to authorize the superintendent to sign the resolution on behalf of the district; the board approved the authorization by voice vote (recorded as 6–0).

Trustees also granted the superintendent authority to hire principals and other contractual personnel on salary schedules AP-69 and above until the next regular board meeting in order to maintain district staffing through the summer hiring period. The motion—made and seconded during the meeting—passed by a 6–0 vote.

Following a closed session, the board approved the superintendent contract as discussed in executive session. Trustee Buddy Bonner moved to approve the contract and Trustee Stacy Barker seconded; the board recorded a unanimous 6–0 vote to adopt the contract.

These personnel actions were taken after the board convened a closed session authorized under the Texas Government Code and reconvened in open session to take final action. Administration indicated that hiring decisions at the principal level made under the delegated authority will be brought to the board for recognition at its August meeting.
