Board approves additions to summer-work compensation schedule for teachers and coaches

Harmony Public Schools' board on May 17 approved updates to its summer work compensation schedule, adding eight activities for which teachers and staff will receive specified stipends or hourly pay.
District staff described the additions as targeted compensation for activities that include STEM camp supervision and instruction, project-based curriculum work, reading-academy projects, and professional-development design. Examples provided in the presentation included $50 per hour for STEM camps (additional duty), $120 per day for face-to-face professional training days (or $60 per day for online), a $30-per-hour rate for certain project tasks (not to exceed eight hours per project and a maximum number of days specified in the full handbook), and $240 per project for projects estimated to take eight hours.
Staff said curriculum directors will assign specific projects and that payments will be administered through the district’s normal payroll process. Board members asked whether these were new items or updates to existing compensation; staff replied the agenda packet includes the full existing schedule and these items were new additions.
A motion to approve the summer work compensation updates was seconded and approved by voice vote.
Staff said they will proceed to assign projects, monitor hours and return if any further policy changes are necessary.
