The update matters to students and Career and Technical Education (CTE) staff because the foundation’s donations support hands‑on training, tool access and trade-focused scholarships.
Christie, speaking during the public‑comment portion of the meeting, said the foundation’s board includes tradespeople and that the group had raised “over $20,000” from community donations without a formal outreach campaign. She said the foundation donated tool bags — hammers, tape measures, squares and belts — to CTE construction students and worked with CTE instructor Josh Nelson and district trade‑career events.
Christie said the foundation previously issued four $1,000 scholarships and plans to award six scholarships this year (one to be deferred to next year because of applicant timing). The primary eligibility criterion she described is that the student be a graduating senior from one of the CISD high schools and intend to enter a trade. She also said the foundation provided funds to support Midway High School’s graduation activities and the cosmetology program.
The board later accepted donations from the Paul Blake Legacy Foundation — two $1,000 gifts listed on the meeting donation agenda (for Midway graduation and for the cosmetology program) as part of a larger donations vote the board approved unanimously.
No vote was required on the public comment itself; the foundation’s gifts that appeared on the district donations list were approved during the donations agenda item.
