Canyon ISD introduced Travis Willard as the new principal at Randall High School during the May 12 board meeting. The district said Willard has more than 20 years of experience in education and has served as a teacher, coach, elementary principal, instructional-technology coordinator and associate principal.
The announcement matters because principal leadership sets campus direction for academics, operations and culture.
Paul (district administration) described Willard’s education background, saying he earned a bachelor’s degree in science in psychology from WT in 2005 and a master’s degree in educational administration in 2015; Paul also noted Willard is a Randall High graduate. Willard thanked his family and the district and described his leadership philosophy: “Leadership to me is, is much less about being in charge and much more about taking care of the people in your charge,” he said.
Willard said he told the interview committee and staff that his aim is to contribute to Randall High School’s legacy and to prioritize taking care of students and staff. The district did not record a separate board vote on the announcement during the item; trustees received the introduction as a personnel announcement and welcomed Willard to his new role.
The board meeting included recognition of Willard’s family in the audience and brief remarks about his local ties and priorities for the campus.
