Canyon ISD reports state intruder-detection audits passed, continues districtwide InformaCast rollout

Canyon ISD staff told the Board of Trustees on May 12 that the district completed two additional state intruder‑detection audits this school year and is continuing a districtwide rollout of the InformaCast mass-notification and lockdown system.

The update matters because the audits and the alert system relate directly to campus safety procedures and the district’s ability to notify staff and lock facilities during an emergency, officials said.

Robin, speaking for district safety and security staff, said one campus audit was passed “with flying colors” and the other turned up a single issue — an outside gym back door that was locked but not fully latched. Robin said the latch issue has been corrected and the district has submitted documentation of the corrective action to the state. “That was the only thing found on that campus, to have an issue with,” Robin said.

Robin also reviewed the district’s work to implement InformaCast on all campuses. She told the board the district experienced an accidental, district office lockdown activation; staff used the event as a live drill and then conducted an after‑action review. “It was an accidental set off, but everyone got to learn how the system worked and we met today and did an after action,” Robin said. She said installation and training will continue through the summer.

No formal board action was taken on the safety update; the item was presented as an administrative report and corrective work was described as already completed where applicable.

Board members did not request a vote but had the opportunity to ask questions during the presentation. The district indicated it will continue submitting corrective-action documentation to the state as required and will proceed with scheduled InformaCast installations and staff training over the summer.
