Canyon ISD board unanimously approves Year 2 strategic-plan goals

The Canyon ISD Board of Trustees on June 9 unanimously approved Year 2 goals for the district’s strategic plan focused on technology, partnerships, resources, staffing and student safety.
District leaders said the goals translate a year of research and stakeholder input into measurable priorities for the coming school year. Superintendent Dr. Flusche told trustees the goals will be rolled out to staff in July and August and that administration will schedule regular reports back to the board.
Administrators described the goals during a staff presentation. Robin Kramer summarized year‑one work on instructional technology, saying the district completed surveys and 1,758 classroom walkthroughs to build “a draft framework” that will be refined with campus leaders and presented at convocation. Kramer said the committee found that device presence did not reliably indicate instructional use and that next steps include training and clearer standards.
On career and CTE pathways, staff reported expanded advisory boards for nine career clusters, added dual‑credit partnerships with West Texas A&M and other colleges, a new K–8 career interest portal pilot and increased emphasis on industry‑based certifications; staff said 441 students earned certifications this year. Leila and others described progress on fiscal stewardship efforts that led to a vehicle‑leasing program and the formation of a board stewardship committee to explore cost savings.
The approved Year 2 goals, as read by administration, are: 1) develop systemic technology standards and practices for effective and responsible use; 2) expand partnerships to increase college- and career-readiness opportunities; 3) strengthen stewardship and funding practices; 4) improve recruitment, retention and development of staff; and 5) implement a student experience framework addressing academics and students’ physical and mental safety.
Board members moved to adopt the goals after the presentation; the motion passed 7–0.
Administration said the board will see drafts of implementation timelines and reporting checkpoints later this summer.
