MVPD: Suspect arrested after assault and attempted purse theft of person in wheelchair

MVPD reported that on May 13 officers responded to calls about a fight in the 1,800 block of East College Way and found conflicting accounts of what occurred. A person who identified themself as the victim said a woman on a yellow bicycle “came by me and she kicked me over in my wheelchair.” The department said video from the area showed a person hiding in bushes and then attacking the victim; the suspect also attempted to take the victim’s purse. The suspect was booked into the Skagit County Jail on a charge of robbery in the second degree. MVPD noted the victim fell toward the sidewalk rather than into the street, which the department said likely prevented more serious injury. The department did not provide the suspect’s name or the victim’s name in the update.
