Early College High School reports associate-degree completion, dual-credit gains to Sheldon ISD board

Early College High School (ECHS) staff told the Sheldon ISD board that the ECHS program produced significant college-credit and credential outcomes for its 2025 cohort.
Dr. Nia Saviano, dean of Ernie College High School (presenting as ECHS dean), reported an enrollment of 449 students in grades 9–12. She said the class of 2025 was the program’s 10th graduating cohort and that 56% of that class walked the stage the prior Friday having earned associate degrees.
Saviano said another 29% of the 2025 cohort had earned college credit hours and that scholarship awards for the class exceeded $1 million and were still being finalized. She described the program’s state accountability distinctions in access, attainment and achievement and summarized measures used for early-college College, Career and Military Readiness (CCMR), dual-credit hours, and persistence in college-level courses. Students and ambassadors from ECHS also addressed the board about community, culture, leadership, rigor and readiness in prepared remarks and short presentations.
Board members also heard student highlights: ECHS students described programming that includes access to San Jacinto College courses, early attainment of dual-credit hours and examples of student supports such as tutoring and club activities. The ECHS delegation invited trustees to graduation events and asked the board to recognize student achievements in person.
