Sheldon ISD recognizes new principals, directors and volunteers; highlights district awards

Sheldon Independent School District on Monday introduced newly recommended campus leaders, honored employees and recognized volunteers and business partners in a series of presentations to the board.
Board members heard brief remarks and introductions for several appointments and recognitions, including the recommendation of Garrett Allen as principal of Garrett Elementary and the naming of Jan Rolly as director of teaching and learning. Garrett Allen told the board he was “so excited to be the next principal of the Garrett Elementary.”
The meeting included a roll call of monthly award recipients across campuses: Theresa Solis (Teacher of the Month, Carroll Elementary), Ursula Tice (Teacher of the Month, Garrett Elementary), Michelle Diaz (Paraprofessional of the Month, Carroll Elementary) and other campus honorees. The board also recognized campus volunteers and districtwide volunteer service: Cravens Early Childhood Academy logged approximately 4,194 volunteer hours, and the district’s total volunteer hours for the school year were reported as more than 19,000 hours, an estimate valued at roughly $637,000. The district identified Valeria as the top individual volunteer with more than 636 hours.
Business partners and program supporters were acknowledged on the agenda. Tex Gas Welding Supply was named a partner in education for donations of supplies, a 25% student discount, industry tours and continued sponsorship of career and technical education (CTE) programs. Representatives from the Harris County constable’s office were thanked for hands-on training with the district’s criminal justice program.
The recognitions were followed by introductions of district programs that engage community members, including the Ambassador Academy — a yearlong series of monthly sessions for parents and community leaders — and the Superintendent’s Scholar Squad, a student advisory group that presents recommendations to district leadership.
Board action on the hires and recognitions was presented on the consent/recognition portion of the agenda; a formal personnel motion later in the meeting gave the superintendent administrative authority to execute selected personnel contracts for the summer hiring window referenced by the agenda.
