Board approves federal-aid agreement for Winslow Road bridge replacement

The Blackhawk County Board of Supervisors on July 15 approved a federal-aid agreement with the Iowa Department of Transportation to fund replacement of the Winslow Road bridge over the West Fork Cedar River.
County Engineer Kathy told supervisors the bridge — built in 1966 — will be about 60 years old when it is replaced next year. The county plans to use formula federal bridge funds and will apply about $730,000 to the project; county staff said the county typically receives approximately $550,000 per year in formula bridge funding and is using an elevated amount for this replacement.
Procurement and schedule Kathy said final plans have been submitted to DOT, the project is expected to be in a November or December letting for contract award and is slated for construction in the next calendar year. The board approved the standard federal-aid state agreement (IDOT agreement number 2-2-25-HBPD-SD-034; project BRSD-C007-6007) and authorized the chair to sign.
Ending With the agreement approved, county staff will continue final design and coordinate with Iowa DOT on letting and construction scheduling.
