Board adopts 2023–24 and 2024–25 academic calendars with date adjustments

The Manassas Park City Schools Board of Education voted to adopt the 2023–24 and 2024–25 academic calendars after a presentation by Mr. Neff, a district staff member who summarized changes made in response to stakeholder feedback. The board approved both calendars as presented. Key changes to the 2023–24 calendar include: new teachers reporting on August 7 (previously August 3), returning teachers reporting August 11 (August 9 previously) with August 11 designated as a virtual compliance training day, parent-teacher conferences moved to Nov. 1 (October 9 became a professional day), added early-release days Oct. 27 and Dec. 20, a professional day April 1 and a final student day moved from June 6 to June 7 with the last teacher work day on Monday, June 10. For the 2024–25 draft calendar, adjustments included new teachers reporting on Aug. 5, returning teachers on Aug. 9 with a virtual compliance training day, parent-teacher conferences moved to Nov. 1 (Oct. 14 became a professional day), an added early-release day Dec. 20, conversion of a full teacher work day on March 28 to a half day, and the last student day remaining June 6 with the teacher work day on June 9. Mr. Neff presented the calendars and recommended board approval. A board member thanked staff for incorporating community, administration and board priorities and voiced a preference for a longer winter break; another board member noted alignment with neighboring Prince William County calendars where possible. The board moved and seconded a motion to approve both calendars; all members voted "Aye" and the motion carried.
